Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Lads

Thursday 23rd August

Lancaster Lad’s annual show and sale of Breeding rams had a catalogued entry of 120 for the sale. There was a buoyant trade for the rams forward, with a high clearance rate.

The pre-sale show was judged by Mark Parker, Andrew Wilson, Ashley Moran and Bryan Carter who we thank for their time and expertise. The overall Champion was awarded to ST Birkett of Hall Croft, Carnforth with a Beltex x Texel Ram. The Birkett family were also awarded the reserve champion rosette with the 1st Prize Texel Shearling.

The trade topped at £700 for the Champion from ST Birkett who also sold Beltex x tups to £650, with the Reserve Champion Texel from the same home selling to £500. The Texel ram trade was topped at £680 from Harry Geldard of Low Foulshaw with a shearling. The Suffolk trade twice topped at £650 for shearlings from JH Towers of Tunstall Hall. Beltex rams sold to a top of £600 from SM Towers of Curwen Hill. Aged rams topped at £380 from N Barker of Dalton Old Hall with a Texel.

There was just a small number of ram lambs forward selling to a top of £320 for the first prized Suffolk from GM Owen of Neuadd.

Suffolk shearling rams sold to an average of £530, Beltex and Beltex cross rams averaged £421, Texels averaged £331 and Charollais averaging £272 with all rams forward averaged £368.
